Spicy Honey Orange Sliced Pork

Still another quick and easy Asian inspired dinner idea today. I have a bit of a fondness for sweet and spicy dishes and this one does not disappoint.

Pork tenderloin is a household favourite, especially for quick stir fried dishes. It cooks incredibly fast and has more flavour than chicken breasts in my opinion.

Pork tenderloin is a better choice for stir frying quickly because it stays so tender. Careful not to overcook it though. Because it is so thin it can dry out quickly.

You can serve this over plain steamed rice if you prefer but I love serving it over my favorite skinny Chinese noodles.

Spicy Honey Orange Sliced Pork. A sweet, sour and spicy quick dinner idea using quick cooking sliced pork tenderloin that's ready in minutes.

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp peanut oil
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • salt and pepper to season
  • 1 tsp Chinese five spice powder
  • 2 pounds pork tenderloin (very thinly sliced)
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 2 tsp chili paste or crushed chilis
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 small red pepper, chopped
  • 2 oranges (peeled and sectioned into wedges)

Instructions

  1. Season the sliced pork with salt , pepper and the chinese 5 spice powder.
  2. Heat peanut oil in a very hot wok. Add the minced garlic and cook for only a minute.
  3. When the garlic is softened but not browned add the thinly sliced pork with the salt, pepper and five spice powder.
  4. Quickly stir fry the seasoned pork in small batches about a 1/2 pound at a time. This will take only a minute or two per batch at very high heat.
  5. Do not overcook the pork or it will be too dry.
  6. Set the pork aside and to the wok add the orange juice, chili paste, vinegar and ginger.
  7. Simmer until the volume of the liquid is reduced by half.
  8. Add the hoisin sauce and honey.
  9. Simmer for an additional few minutes until the sauce is thickened and very bubbly.
  10. Add the cooked pork along with the red pepper and orange wedges.
  11. Cook until the pork is heated thoroughly; only a minute or two.
  12. Serve over steamed rice or Chinese noodles.
