Accidental Indian Barbecue Chicken. A brilliant fusion of flavours!

Originally published June 2011.

Today’s recipe is a tale of two chickens. I had two whole chickens which I cut into parts to try two different barbecued chicken recipes.

One was using our recent Brown Sugar and Balsamic BBQ Sauce . The second, a simple grilled chicken that was marinated with the Indian Spice mix, Garam Masala.

Each side of the grill was occupied by one of the two version, both which turned out to be quite excellent.

As I was glazing the the chicken on one side of the grill with the barbecue sauce I looked at the other side of the grill and had a thought. I wonder what the marinated chicken would be like with some of the homemade BBQ sauce?

At that very moment Spouse stuck her head out the kitchen door.  “You should try putting some of that BBQ sauce on the Indian marinated chicken.”

Indian garam masala spice mix. Easily found in the spice aisle or at the bulk store.

Well, I guess that little coincidence sealed the deal and I did exactly that. The result was simply incredible; so much so that I have been craving more of this chicken every day since.

This is definitely not boring BBQ chicken! It is simply one of the most flavourful things I have ever cooked on the old gas grill. Let me know if you agree.

I made the BBQ sauce then the next day, did the chicken. My husband is still smacking his lips! In fact, he used the BBQ sauce on an egg breakfast sandwich! Both the sauce and the chicken & marinade are simply divine. Thanks Barry!
