Ingredients

  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup carrots sliced or cut in sticks
  • ½ cup sweet red pepper
  • ½ cup celery
  • 3 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 medium sized red onion julienned
  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp finely grated fresh ginger root
  • 1 tsp Chinese Five Spice
  • Zest of half an orange
  • 2 tsp corn starch
  • 3/4 cup orange juice

Instructions

  1. Par boil the broccoli and carrots in salted water for 5 minutes
  2. Plunge par boiled vegetables in ice water to stop the cooking action.
  3. Meanwhile chop or julienne the red pepper and celery.
  4. In a large sauté pan or wok heat the sesame oil.
  5. Add the garlic and onions and sauté for 2 minutes.
  6. Drain and add the carrots and broccoli , then stir fry for an additional 2 minutes.

  7. Add the soy sauce, ginger, five spice and orange zest.
  8. Dissolve 2 teaspoons corn starch in ¾ cup orange juice.
  9. Pour over the stir fried vegetables and toss until the sauce slightly thickens. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds if desired.
