Here's another of my freezer cleaner recipe ideas that turned out quite well indeed.

I've always been a fan of combining fruit flavours in recipes.Sometimes unexpected combinations turn out to be the best ideas.

Regular visitors to Rock Recipes will know that I'll throw almost any combination of fruits and berries together. That could be for a jam, a fruit crumble or my favourite, Bumbleberry Crumble Pie!

Blueberry Cherry Jam, economical and practical.

Long time readers also know that I'm quite practical when it comes to saving money and avoiding food waste.

Once again this was a practical consideration when I was cleaning out the freezer. I came across a few odds and ends of frozen blueberries my Dad had picked last year.

With this years crop in the freezer, I wanted to use up the last few cups of last seasons. When I came across a couple of frozen cherries from earlier this summer, a small batch of jam seemed a very practical use indeed.

I'd never thought of blueberries and cherries together but then again, I thought, why not? Since I believe almost any fruit flavours can combine well, the dark colour & sweet taste of both would be quite complimentary. I was not wrong!

We had made some delicious Sour Cream Biscuits again for brunch that weekend and served it with those. The flaky, tender biscuits were the perfect carrier for the natural sweet flavour of the jam.

It's a combination I know I will return to again in future. I'm thinking it will make a gorgeous filling for a Victoria Sandwich Cake too.

To bottle/can your jam correctly and safely, please refer to the Bernardin Step by Step Guide here

I'm told that Bernardin Low Sugar Pectin is getting harder to find and that it may be discontinued. I have also used Ball Brand Low Sugar pectin which seems more readily available. 4tbsp Ball Brand Low Sugar Pectin should be sufficient for the 6 cupd of fruit in this recipe.
