Chef Mark McCrowe is back for another Super Bowl Party addition. You may recall his very popular Big Mac Potato Skins from last year.

This one is another fantastically flavourful addition to this years menu, or at any celebration year round. I bet they would be a deliciously different take along to a potluck as well.

Move over pigs in a blanket, and make way for these smoked gouda and chorizo jalapeño poppers. This recipe is as easy as it is versatile.

If fresh Mexican chorizo sausage isn’t available a Italian sausage or even bacon would work here just as good here. You can have fun with these and make them your own.

The roasted chili, melted smokey cheese and little bites of crispy fried chorizo and onions will be sure to score you a touchdown at your next Super Bowl party .

Chorizo Jalapeño Poppers with Smoked Gouda

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes

Chorizo Jalapeño Poppers with Smoked Gouda. A very flavourful addition to your Superbowl Party or any celebratory gathering throughout the year.

Ingredients

  • 6 large Jalapeños, stemmed, seeded and halved
  • 4 links Mexican chorizo (casing removed)
  • 1 small white onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup cream cheese (room temperature) 
  • 2 tbsp sour cream
  • 1/2 pound smoked gouda, shredded
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 F
  • Fry chorizo sausage and diced onion until golden and crispy in a medium sauté pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened cream cheese, sour cream, smoked gouda, salt, pepper and slightly cooled sausage mix.
  • With a table spoon begin filling the halved jalapeños and bake on a parchment lined tray for about 20 minutes.
  • Cool slightly and serve with sour cream.
