Three-Cheese Burgers on Sourdough Buns

Three-Cheese Burgers on Sourdough Buns

Here’s a great idea to serve anytime but especially at barbeques or if you’re having friends over for a Superbowl or hockey finals party. You can prep the burgers and the fries in advance so that all you have to do is pop the fries into the oven, grill the burgers and toast the buns, meaning minimum time in the kitchen away from the tube. These hefty fellas are a match for even the most ravenous appetites.

(Pictured on homemade sourdough buns with seasoned oven fries.)

Makes 4 double burgers.

3 pounds extra lean ground beef
8 oz blue cheese
4 ounces grated cheddar cheese
4 ounces grated mozzarella cheese
8 slices crisp cooked smoked bacon
Salt and pepper to season
4 slices red onion (grilled or raw, your preference)
4 sourdough burger buns

Divide the ground beef into 16 equal portions and form into thin patties about 5 inches in diameter. Place 1 one ounce slice of blue cheese on 8 of the burger patties and cover those with the remaining burger patties. Pinch the edges of the burger patties together to seal in the cheese. Grill or broil the patties for about 3 minutes per side. Place cooked patties on a cookie sheet and top 4 with the grated cheddar and 4 with the grated mozzarella. Place under the broiler until the cheese is melted. Serve on toasted sourdough buns using one cheddar topped burger patty and one mozzarella topped burger patty per hamburger. Top each with bacon and onion and your favourite condiments.
