This super fast ginger beef and noodles is such a quick and easy workday supper. And one that is not short on flavour either!
Quick cooking, thinly sliced steak and 4 minute Chinese thin noodles can help have this delicious dish on the table in under 20 minutes.
That’s faster than you can order take out!
The thinly sliced beef cooks in mere minutes. The delicious sauce is just as quick, using common ingredients easily found in the Asian food aisle at the supermarket.
The Chinese Five Spice blend is one I use all the time as well. I usually have no issue finding it in the spice aisle at local supermarkets.
If you can’t find it there, then try the bulk food store. They carry a lot of different spices and this blend is always available when I shop there.
I’ve kept it simple here, only adding some sweet bell peppers. sometimes I char and peel the peppers for extra flavour. You can do this on a gas grill, drill pan or under the broiler.
If you put the charred peppers into a plastic bag for 5 to 10 minutes, the skins peel right off, leaving just enough char to give the perfect flavour.
You can add plenty of other vegetables too, if you choose. Pre-steamed broccoli, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, or snow peas are all excellent suggestions.

Easy Five Spice Ginger Beef. Thinly sliced beef and a quick cooking sauce come together to make a complete, delicious weekday meal in about 20 minutes.
Ingredients
- 2 thick cut strip loin steaks, well trimmed and thinly sliced.
- 3 tbsp peanut oil
- 4 cloves minced garlic
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/2 cup Hoisin Sauce
- 3 tbsp grated fresh ginger
- 1 tsp Chinese five spice powder
- 4 tbsp molasses
- 1 tsp crushed chili paste
- 4 tbsp rice wine vinegar
- 1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
- 3 tsp toasted sesame oil
- cornstarch slurry, 1 rounded tablespoon of corn starch dissolved in 1 ounce cold water
- 1 chopped red bell pepper
Instructions
- Heat the peanut oil in a very hot wok.
- Season the steak strips with salt and pepper and quickly stir fry for only a minute or two. Be careful not to overcook the beef at this stage ; a minute or two is really long enough. Remove beef from the wok and set aside.
- Add another couple of tablespoons of peanut oil to the wok and quickly sauté the minced garlic for only a few seconds.
- Add all of the remaining ingredients to the to the wok except the cornstarch slurry and bell pepper..
- Simmer the sauce for about 5 minutes then stir in the corn starch slurry, stirring constantly until it thickens to the consistency of a glaze.
- Toss the beef back into the sauce along with one chopped red bell pepper and cook only enough to heat through; about a minute.
- Serve immediately over rice or Chinese noodles and garnish with toasted sesame seeds and/or green onions.

I made this tonight with a few adjustments! Honey instead of molasses, a chopped onion along with the garlic, and 2 julienned carrots along with the red pepper. It smells amazing; can't wait!
