Orange Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Yes, I know, another chocolate orange combination but it might be my favorite yet.
This recipe blog is no stranger to the combination of chocolate and orange. There have been many recipes over the years, from our incredibly popular Chocolate Orange Cheesecake to Chocolate Orange Nanaimo Bars!
This chocolate orange delight is a fantastic chewy, crispy edged cookie. It really packs in the chocolate flavour with a rich cocoa dough and plenty of dark chocolate chips.
The fragrant orange zest added to the dough gives these cookies an amazing scent as they are baking too. They smell irresistible.
Baked goods always make great ideas for gift giving. Package these up as a birthday present for a chocolate orange lover and you’ll make a friend for life!

For fans of the popular “Terry’s Chocolate Orange“, this is YOUR cookie! TRUST ME!
Don’t despair if you are not a fan of dark chocolate though. Just use semisweet or even milk chocolate chips if you like. There is no bad combination of chocolate and orange.

Orange Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies
Orange Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies. For dark chocolate lovers, this classic flavour combination is baked to perfection in these crispy, chewy, perfect cookies.
Ingredients
- 1 ¼ cups butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- zest of one large orange, finely minced. (About a tbsp)
- 1 ½ cups dark chocolate chips (I use 50% cocoa chips)
Instructions
- Sift together the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
- Cream together the butter and sugar.
- Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture and beat until well combined.
- Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture along with the chocolate chips and orange zest.
- Mix well until a dough forms. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Dough must be very cold when it goes in the oven.
- When chilled, roll into 1 inch balls.
- Place about 2 inches apart on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees F for about 8-10 minutes.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the pan for several minutes before placing them on a wire rack to cool completely.

I don’t see any orange zest or flavouring in the ingredient list. Am I missing it?

Wow! These are great!! Barry, you have really done it this time. I love these. Perfect flavour. Needed something for a potluck tomorrow so tried these. I shaped the dough into a log 18" long and wrapped in plastic wrap and left it in the fridge over night. The 18" cuts nicely into 3 - 6 inch sections which I divided each into 12 cookies. They baked up beautifully in 12 minutes. A little longer than you suggested but that is what worked in my oven. As I needed more than 2 dozen for the potluck this size of cookie and number worked well. They are still a generous size to serve and so very good. Thanks for all your great recipes!

These are so good!!! Just the right amount of orange flavour. I used white chocolate chips in place of regular or dark ones. I will be adding this recipe to my cookie roster.

I'd say overbaked. Try a minute or so less.
