This chocolate orange delight is a fantastic chewy, crispy edged cookie. It really packs in the chocolate flavour with a rich cocoa dough and plenty of dark chocolate chips.

The fragrant orange zest added to the dough gives these cookies an amazing scent as they are baking too. They smell irresistible.

Don’t despair if you are not a fan of dark chocolate though. Just use semisweet or even milk chocolate chips if you like. There is no bad combination of chocolate and orange.

Orange Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies. For dark chocolate lovers, this classic flavour combination is baked to perfection in these crispy, chewy, perfect cookies.

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cups butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • zest of one large orange, finely minced. (About a tbsp)
  • 1 ½ cups dark chocolate chips (I use 50% cocoa chips)

Instructions

  1. Sift together the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture and beat until well combined.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture along with the chocolate chips and orange zest.
  5. Mix well until a dough forms. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Dough must be very cold when it goes in the oven.
  6. When chilled, roll into 1 inch balls.
  7. Place about 2 inches apart on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees F for about 8-10 minutes.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool on the pan for several minutes before placing them on a wire rack to cool completely.

Where does the Terry’s Orange Chocolate come into play? Is that chopped up and used in lieu of the chocolate chips or melted into the batter?

How much orange zest? No oranges listed in ingredients. It sounds delicious but would like to know how to incorporate the orange flavour.
