Orange Cinnamon Roll Cookies. A delicious combination of citrus and cinnamon flavours in a buttery cookie you will fall in love with. Delicious with or without the optional glaze.
These cookies are very festive for the holidays; with the fragrant citrus and spice bringing the season instantly to mind. As my daughter perfectly summed it up ,"This is the perfect cookie to leave for Santa". Truthfully, they are scrumptious at any time of year.

Ingredients
For the Cookie Dough
- 1 cup butter
- ⅓ cup fine sugar
- ¾ cup icing sugar
- zest of one orange, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 2 ¼ cups flour
- pinch salt
For the Cinnamon Paste
- ⅓ cup butter
- ¼ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoon corn syrup
- 4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Glaze
- ½ cup icing sugar
- 2 tablespoon corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon water
Instructions
To prepare the cookie dough
Cream together the sugars and butter.
Beat in the vanilla, orange zest, and egg until fluffy.
Fold in the flour and salt just until a soft dough forms.
Chill the dough for about a half hour and then roll out into a 12x12 square.
For the cinnamon paste
Beat all ingredients together with an electric mixer until smooth, fluffy and is easily spreadable.
Spread evenly over the surface of the rolled out cookie dough.
Roll the dough up tightly and wrap in plastic wrap and chill for an hour or so.
Cut ¼ to ⅓ inch slices of the dough and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet about 1 inch apart.
Bake in a preheated 350 degree F oven until they get golden at the edges, about 13 to 15 minutes.
Cool on a wire rack before spreading or drizzling the glaze into the cookies.
If freezing these cookies, I would recommend adding the glaze after they have been thawed.

Barry, looks great! Two questions: What is "fine" sugar? And if the roll is 12" wide and cut in 1/4" slices, I figure one batch makes about 4 dozen cookies?

if you can find fine granulated sugar, use it, if not, regular sugar will do.

Can margerine be used in place of the butter?
Absolutely NOT! Margarine is NEVER a substitute for butter in any cookie recipe. You deserve butter. Go buy some! 😉
Amen! I wouldn't use margarine to substitute in any recipe- ever! It's horrible for you and there is no comparison to the real thing.

Made these today. Wondered why you didn't advise to make sure to flour board and rolling pin since the dough is so sticky. Then realized (after they were in the oven) that I only used 1 1/4 c flour! Tasty regardless (esp with the real butter) but will follow the recipe for the next batch 😉

Sure thing.
I've made these several times, and sometimes substitute a tsp of 5 spice for a tsp of the cinnamon. Works very well with the orange!
I do that for several recipes that call for cinnamon. Makes a nice change.
