These Chocolate Walnut Butter Tart Bars are so easy to make and combine the flavour of butter tarts with crunchy walnuts and chocolate chips. YUM!

Chocolate Walnut Butter Tart Bars
One of my favourite baked goodies is a sweet, sticky, caramel-y, delicious butter tart and these butter tart bars are very reminiscent of this Canadian classic pastry.
This recipe has the background taste of a legendarily good Canadian butter tart, with the added crunch of toasty walnuts and luscious chocolate.
It’s another perfect recipe for the Holiday freezer or at any time of the year.

These are dangerously good. I’m a relatively inexperienced baker and these were so, so simple to make with mostly things I usually have on hand, and I appreciate how the recipe was clear and easy to follow. The bottom layer is so crisp and buttery and the top is indulgent and rich. I will for sure make these again. Would be a great hostess gift or potluck contribution. Thank you for the fantastic recipe.

Hi Barry
It looks like there is a crumbly top third layer in the picture. What is it?

I sent a review last September and tried to explain why it looks like three layers. You might take a look.

I just made these for the first time last night. The only change I made was to use a full cup of walnuts and I am happy with the results. Your recipes are so accurate and I was curious as to how it looks like three layers. I watched as they were baking and could see because of the baking powder, the top rising to create a look of another layer!. These could not have been more easy to make with on-hand pantry items. Super gooey right out of the oven, my husband loved it over ice cream. This morning they are firm and cut nicely as the picture shows. Thanks for another innovative and dependable recipe.

It looks like there are 3 layers, not two. It looks like there is a chocolate layer in the middle with a walnut and a flour mixture on top of that. ??? How did you get the chocolate to stay in the middle? It does not seem to have any chocolate on top.
It does look very yummy though!! I would like to make it.
