Best Canada Day Desserts
The Best Classic Canadian Butter Tarts - there's a reason why we have a national obsession with these sweet, buttery, caramel-y tarts. I've sampled them in many places across the country and this thick pastry version is my favorite. Don't do the raisin debate, just leave them out if they are not your thing. Everyone should be able to enjoy them as they like them.
The Nanaimo Bar Recipe Collection. From a new and improved classic Nanaimo bar recipe, to great new versions like Irish Cream, chocolate orange or raspberry. These 9 flavours will have you falling in love all over again with Canada’s favourite cookie treat.
Homemade Flakies with raspberry compote & vanilla cream - a nostalgic tribute to the Vachon Flakie, one of my very favourite snack cake treats as a kid.
Maple Pie - a close cousin to butter tarts, sugar pie and even a southern pecan pie. This rich maple flavoured filling in a flakey butter cry pastry is perfect for Canada Day or even for Thanksgiving or at the Holidays.
Chocolate Marshmallow Cake (Jos Louis Cake) Based upon the famous Canadian snack cake, this recipe has proven to be one of the most popular dessert cakes ever on Rock Recipes..
Strawberry Custard Tarts aka Tim Tarts! A nostalgic look back at a classic Canadian treat from the 80's and a recipe to make them at home. Ideal for Canada Day!
Newfoundland Snowballs - the most searched for Newfoundland recipe on RockRecipes.com. Soft chocolate fudge balls with the goodness of oatmeal and coconut. These freeze exceptionally well and my kids actually prefer to eat them frozen, just like I did as a child.
Blueberry Peach Sour Cream Cake - a marriage of great seasonal flavors! A summer into fall recipe taking advantage of seasonal fruits when they are both available.
Bakeapple is the Newfoundland word for Cloudberry, a deliciously intense northern berry that makes for an amazing topping on a creamy vanilla cheesecake.
Raspberry Buttercream Milles Feuilles - A twist on a classic French dessert using regular buttercream frosting, raspberry jam and frozen puff pastry. These beautiful pastries are not nearly as difficult to prepare as you might think.
Vanilla Caramel Pastries a.k.a. Caramel Flakies - a copycat version of the classic Canadian snack cake from Vachon. Easy to make using frozen puff pastry.
Loaded Butter Tarts - traditional easy to make butter tarts with the addition of toasted pecans, chocolate chips, raisins and dried coconut; ultimately decadent.
Moose Farts - A super easy to prepare, no-bake cookie treat that kids will love and maybe giggle a little at the name too.
Blueberry Cream Puffs. An easy, luscious blueberry compote os swirled into vanilla whipped cream and liberally stuffed into crispy choux pastry shells.
Maple Butter Tart Pie. Take an iconic Canadian favourite treat like a butter tart, add in more Canadian maple flavour & make it as a full sized pie!
Jam tarts. A real Newfoundland favourite, especially using local berry jams. You can use any jam you like in these gorgeous little mini tarts.
Strawberry & Rhubarb Fool from "The Lighthouse Picnic". A simple, old fashioned, creamy, flavourful dessert that celebrates the best local ingredients. "This dessert couldn’t be easier or couldn’t be any tastier!" Jill Curran.
Dulce de Leche Caramel Tarts. So simple, so easy. Only 5 common ingredients and a very easy method is all it takes to make these rich, buttery, utterly irresistible mini tarts.
Billot Log Cake is inspired by the famous Vachon snack cake & is perfect for Canada Day. It's a sponge cake roll with buttercream raspberries & coconut.
