Classic Newfoundland Christmas Cookie Recipes
A simple collection of some of the most popular Newfoundland Christmas cookie recipes from my childhood in Newfoundland.

It's never a wrong time to start planning treats for the Holiday freezer.
Being a recipe blog from Newfoundland, one of the ways people often discover this website is by searching for Newfoundland Christmas cookie recipes. There is still a very well maintained tradition of almost marathon Christmas baking that occurs in the province at this time of year.
These days, many family recipes may not have been passed down. However, my family's have been quite well preserved, with many of them shared right here on Rock Recipes.
Inevitably these days people from this end of the country go looking for those childhood favourite Christmas treats online. Then, they are bound to discover our growing collection of Christmas cookies.
There are actually about 200 cookie recipes to be found here now in our Cookie Category but without doubt, the most popular tend to fall in the category of Newfoundland favourites.

If you have a suggestion of one to add to this collection or want to share your own favourites from your childhood, feel free to let me know in the comments below.

So very glad that I happened upon your site. I was looking for recipes for Traditional NL Christmas cookies for my son who is a vegan. Not only did I find the recipes that he wanted, but I also discovered that you have a vegetarian section! Well done! Thank you so much. I will be sharing your link with many of my friends and family.
Glad you've found us too. With 1400 recipes there's lots to discover here. Hope you can find my cookbook too. It has a lot of favourites from the website. New cookbook is in the works too. 🙂
Do you have a recipe for chocolate peanut butter cups?
You could use the filling from my Oreo Peanut Butter Bars.
My all-time favourite squares that my zoom made were Pineapple Squares! Do you happen to have a recipe for them? Thanks for all your ‘Rockin’ Recipes!!!
Can you describe her recipe? I've had this request before. Something I might want to add.
Thanks Barry. I'm having trouble remembering it exactly (sadly, it's probably been 20+ years since I've had one). It was a pretty simple recipe as I recall ... it had a shortbread-type base, and I thought it had crushed pineapple mixed with condensed milk on top of that, but now I'm questioning if it was actually cool whip. I believe it had some of the shortbread crumbled over top as well. They were luscious!! LOL
I have the recipe for Pineapple squares. How I can get it to you Jan?
Is the the one with the raw egg? I don't make that one any more for food safety issues, myself. Haven't in decades really.
All beautiful cookies, Barry. Thanks so much. Happy Holidays.
Thanks for all the wonderful recipes.
Glad you are enjoying them! Merry Christmas!
These cookies look awesome, my Maritime husband is looking for a date filled cookie that his Mom used to make for Christmas by baking the dates inside 2 circles that are sealed! My Mom baked the cookies first and then added the filling!
Sounds like little turnovers.
Is your book available in the uk, would love to buy it
I'm afraid not. Amazon Canada will ship it to the UK though. Try this link: http://amzn.to/1xKHTNv
These recipes look amazing and I am going to try a few of them. My grandmother was from Newfoundland and she used to make the most delicious bread that was round, had a pale yellow color and sticky raisins inside. Would you happen to know what kind of bread it was - I have been looking for this recipe for years. Thank you! Patricia
The pale yellow colour likely came from adding eggs to her bread dough. Search for bread on this website. There are a couple of raisin bread recipes here.
je rêve d'avoir ce livre de recette la. j'aime cusiner
I have been looking for a recipe for sponge jam cookies. Wondering if you could help me.Thanks
Where does that originate?
Best cooking site ever!!!
Hi Barry, I was wondering if u ar3 related to Evelyn Parsons?
Not that I know of.
Amazing recipes - thank you! Would you happen to have a recipe for Pineapple Squares? My Mom (fellow Newfoundlander) used to make them years ago and they were my faves! I'm sure I had the recipe but now can't seem to find it anywhere and haven't made them in years! They had a shortbread kind of bottom and they were made with crushed pineapple. Thanks!
Not on this site but I may add it in the near future. Ours had pineapple inside frosting!
Made my first cherry cake last week.....your recipe for the one with the cup of warm carnation milk was to die for!!! The whole cake disappeared in 48 hours. I added an extra 1/2 tsp. of almond extract because I love the flavor My sister who bakes all the time and who has tried many different variations made the same one as well. She said this is her go to recipe! It is even better than one which calls for cream cheese.....thanks so much!
Lassy mogs are the Best!! Love your website & all the wonderful recipes.
Thank you so much for sharing such beautiful recipes... I will most definitely try to make a few for the upcoming holidays..
Merry Christmas to you and your family
