Rock Recipes TOP 25 Cake Recipes
This post was first written back in 2013 but I’ve updated it today to include some new entries to the top ten. PLUS I’ve expanded the collection to include the 25 most baked cakes by our followers in the last 12 years!
There were some surprises in there since the last time the post was updated. The position of our Apple Upside Down Cake in particular surprised me. It climbed a long way to where it sits now.
All of the cakes in our TOP 25 cake recipes are outstanding desserts for any occasion. From the first day I started writing this recipe blog we have been featuring delicious dessert cakes.
Any of them are fit for any occasion you can name; from family dinners to any celebration. Now, over 11 years later I have published well over 100 cake recipes on this website.
I’ve crunched the numbers to come up with our top 25 most popular cake recipes over that time.
These are all dessert cakes and not heavier cakes like Christmas Fruitcakes, but if you want to take a look, we have a collection of Best Christmas Cakes Here.
Don’t stop at this list, though, just type “cake” into the search box on this page and you will discover dozens more great cake recipes. Enjoy!

I love the idea of your 5 ingredient condensed milk cake. My mouth was watering for it and I was going to bake it today. Alas there are no measurements. Please give me the recipe

I prefer using powder color; do I need to add any liquid to the red velvet recipe to make up for lost liquid from regular food coloring?

Probably wouldn't make a big difference but you can add the amount of food colour liquid as extra milk to be sure.

I’m originally from NF but moved away more than 35 yrs ago. I’m looking for two recipes, that my mother always made when I was growing up, One was called a boiled raisin cake, it was made with molasses and raisins, very dark colour, lot of cloves, and very very moist. The other recipe was called saucy pudding, it was a quick dough she’d make with a few simple ingredients (flour, sugar, etc) and mix it with a spoon then spread it in a glass dish, and pour a sauce over it and bake. The sauce was hot water, melted butter and sugar. When it came out of the oven the dough would have risen to the top and the sauce would be on the bottom. The dough wasn’t too sweet but the sweet sauce balanced it.
I have been craving those things since I was a kid. My mother has passed away and I can’t find anyone who knows what these recipes were.
Would love feedback. [email protected]
