Labour Day Barbecue Recipes. From great grilling and smoking to side dishes and desserts! Everything you’ll need to make your summer BBQ extra special.
There’s just something a little bit sad about Labour Day. Sure, it’s a day off work to celebrate with family and friends, but it also marks the end of summer.
It’s been an incredibly busy one for our family. First, along with our son, we headed to meet our daughter in London, then headed out on a 3 week European vacation. On our return we had my sister’s wedding the next week and 3 of my siblings came home for the wedding and a visit as well.
My youngest sister brought her two boys from Alberta for an entire month. We sure had fun showing the kids all that Newfoundland has to offer.
Just last week, my daughter again had friends visiting from university in Toronto. We are only now getting back into the daily routine, but we all enjoyed a break from the ordinary grind.
So, before you head back to school or work, take the time this weekend to enjoy a great BBQ meal with family and friends. Here are some terrific recipe suggestions for a great BBQ menu.
How about some main courses from the backyard BBQ or grill.
With or without a smoker, these ribs with our outstanding Smokin’ Summer Spice Dry rub are so tender and delicious.
I use the same rub on this One Hour Beer Butt Chicken.
Of course a homemade BBQ Sauce is going to get lots of delicious attention. Try one in our BBQ Sauce Collection.
Smoked Pulled Pork is a great way to feed a crowd on Labour Day!
Smoked Pork Loin is another excellent choice. We thin slice it for delicious sandwiches.
Burgers are always a solid choice for a BBQ anytime. Why not try our Copycat Shake Shack Burger.
Lamb makes a great change for a summer BBQ. Try these. Garlic Balsamic Grilled Lamb Chops.
Of course wings are almost everyone’s BBQ fave. These Honey BBQ Grilled Wings will surely disappear fast!
A great way to stretch a steak dinner is to use it in this amazing family favourite at our house Steak Souvlaki!
If you want to serve your steak family style, why not try our BBQ Prime Rib with Garlic Chili Butter.
Our Peri Peri Sauce is garlicky, spicy, lemony, tangy and utterly addictive. This bright, fresh, fully-flavoured version hits all the right notes. It’s way better than Nando’s! Great on chicken or even shrimp kabobs.
Secondly, let’s get the side dishes sorted out.
We already have an incredibly popular collection of our Best BBQ Side Dishes, where you will find plenty of side dish inspiration from pasta and potato salads to cornbread and mac & cheese.
Finally, we move on to desserts that impress at a Summer BBQ.
They can be quite simple but quite delicious like these individual Sweet Biscuit Strawberry Shortcakes.
This delicious, easy dessert can be made with whatever’s in season, and I promise not to tell if you choose to use frozen store bought pastry.
Summer Fruit White Chocolate Cheesecake Trifle. Easy but impressive when you bring this one to the table!
Our Strawberry Shortcake Cheesecake is a showstopper! Watch heads turn when you arrive with this one.
It just would not be summer in this house without this incredible Peach Pie.
Of course good old fashioned Apple Pie is a natural for BBQ’s. Ours takes a different approach to the filling, making it perfect every time.
Need something Chocolate instead? We’ve got another collection of our Most Popular Chocolate Desserts here. Including this incredibly popular frozen Peanut Butter cup Pie. Make it days ahead for a real time saver!
And finally if you need great pie recipes you can check out our Top Ten Pies Collection, which includes this all time favourite, and our most popular pie ever, Coconut Cream!
